“Grease” is a classic musical comedy that is set in 1959 and follows ten teenagers as they try to find their way through high school. It ran on Broadway for 8 years and is the fourth longest running show with 3,388 performances. “Grease” won 2 Drama Desk Awards for outstanding choreography and outstanding costume design, a Theatre World Award and was also a Tony nominee for Best Musical in 1972. Due to the musicals tremendous success, it was revived twice, in 1994 and 2007. “Grease” was later made into a musical motion picture released in 1978 starring John Travolta as Danny and Olivia Newton-John as Sandy.
About the show: Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding "Burger Palace Boys" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko, played by R.J. Frankenberry in Cast A and Brandon Salamone in Cast B, and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski, played by Megan Campbell in Cast A and Sydney Gershon in cast B, try to relive the high romance of their "Summer Nights" as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as "Greased Lightnin'", "You’re the One that I Want” and "Sandy," recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation.
