The Spotlight Arts Summer Mainstage is a large-scale commercial production directed by industry professionals and is by audition only. Rehearsals take place three evenings per week: Note the *NEW* Rehearsal Days!!: Monday evenings, Thursday evenings, & Saturday afternoons beginning June 13th. Only ONE absence is allowed in the mainstage program. However, some conflicts and summer vacations can be pre-approved prior to casting! Be sure to include any and all conflict dates on your audition form!
The classic movie musical from the 1980’s bursts onto the live stage! When Chicago teenager Ren moves to small farming town Beaumont with his mother, he finds himself at odds with most of the town. He isn’t prepared for the many changes from city life, including a ban on dancing. He befriends Willard, a country hick who becomes his best friend, and the rebellious Ariel, who wants to escape from the strict rules of her father, Reverend Moore. When they ask the Town Council for permission to hold a Graduation Prom, the conflict between the town’s teenagers and parents grows, until they must choose sides between tradition and change. And in the process, Ren helps the town to heal from a tragedy that affected them all.
Rocking with the popular songs of the Oscar-winning, Tony-nominated soundtrack, Footloose is a spirited and heartwarming story about family, growing up, and of course, dancing. Join us this summer as “Everybody Cuts Footloose!”

ARE AUDITIONS STILL HAPPENING IN PERSON?
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, we have moved all auditions to digital VIDEO SUBMISSIONS. The deadline for submitting video auditions is April 19th! The audition form is a google form that includes the ability to upload your audition videos right on the form before you click "submit." You can submit the audition form through this google form link: https://forms.gle/a5Ju8LjPwvqSZ8Q67
WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR MY AUDITION?
Prepare two contrasting 32-bar cuts of musical theatre songs of your choice (in the style of Footloose or contemporary pop/rock) along with a completed audition form (using the link above), a performance resume and a headshot. Be sure to find your own instrumental/accompaniment track that you can sing with in your audition videos!
CAN I SING A SONG FROM THE SHOW?
Absolutely! This is your audition and you can sing any musical theatre song or contemporary pop/rock song of your choice! If you feel that a song from Footloose will show your voice off best, that's great! However, we do encourage that you sing from outside of the show as well.
DOES MY PHOTO HAVE TO BE A PROFESSIONAL HEADSHOT?
While we do recommend that you submit a professional headshot for auditions, it is not required. You can bring any size photo of yourself that you have available that gives us a clear sense of what you look like every day.
WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY PERFORMANCE RESUME?
You should include any training and experience relating to singing, acting or dancing, including your experience in any previous theatrical productions. If you are interested in a resume template, please email us for one and we'd be happy to send over an example!
WHAT ROLES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE SHOW?
We have posted a full character breakdown above!
WHEN WILL I HEAR ABOUT CASTING?
We may schedule a round of callbacks to take place at a later date after April 19th. You will receive an email by Monday, April 20th if you are asked to submit callback materials. After we review callback materials, our production team will meet to make casting decisions and we will email all auditioners after all casting decisions are made.
CAN I STILL BE CAST IF I DO NOT GET A CALLBACK?
YES! We will only read for select roles for callbacks so if you do not receive a callback email, please keep an eye out for the cast list!
WILL THE SHOW BE DOUBLE CAST?
Depending on casting requirements and the number of performers who audition, we may have two separate casts (Cast A & Cast B). If this becomes the case, each cast would have two performances on performance weekend.
WHEN ARE REHEARSALS?
Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings between 5-9pm, Thursday evenings between 5-9pm, and Saturday afternoons beginning June 13th. Performances run July 24th-26th.
I MAY HAVE A POSSIBLE CONFLICT DURING THE REHEARSAL PERIOD. WHEN SHOULD I BRING THIS TO SOMEONE'S ATTENTION?
We can approve some conflicts prior to casting. This means that once the cast list is posted, we will not accept any additional conflicts and will adhere to a strict participation and attendance policy (only ONE absence is allowed in the mainstage program). We have a short 6-week rehearsal that includes tech week and we work at a very intensive pace so if you do have any potential conflicts (sports games, a weekly dance class, a one-week vacation, etc.), please make sure you write it down on your audition form.
WHO DO I CONTACT IF I HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT AUDITIONS OR VIDEO SUBMISSIONS?
