The Spotlight Arts Summer Mainstage is a large-scale commercial production directed by industry professionals and is by audition only. Rehearsals take place three evenings per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) between 5-9pm beginning June 4th. Only ONE absence is allowed in the mainstage program. Summer vacations can be pre-approved prior to casting.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR MY AUDITION?
Prepare two contrasting 32-bar cuts of musical theatre songs of your choice (in the style of Legally Blonde) along with a completed audition form, a performance resume and a headshot. Be sure to bring sheet music in the correct key, and make sure it is neatly organized in a binder for our audition accompanist, Joanne Archibald.
WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE TO MY AUDITION?
We ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. If you cannot remember the time slot that you signed up for, please email us. Please do not arrive earlier than 4:30PM on Thursday & Saturday.
WHERE IS THE LOCATION OF AUDITIONS?
This weekend's auditions will take place at the Studio Around the Corner: 67 Main Street, Suite 101, Brewster, NY 10509. The entrance to the studio is in the back of the building.
DO I NEED TO SIGN IN WHEN I ARRIVE?
Yes, please find our stage manager Sarah or our Assistant Stage Manager Sierra upon arrival so she can check you in!
CAN I SING A SONG FROM THE SHOW?
Absolutely! This is your audition and you can sing any musical theatre song of your choice! If you feel that a song from Legally Blonde will show your voice off best, that's great! However, we do encourage that you sing from outside of the show as well.
DOES MY PHOTO HAVE TO BE A PROFESSIONAL HEADSHOT?
While we do recommend that you submit a professional headshot for auditions, it is not required. You can bring any size photo of yourself that you have available that gives us a clear sense of what you look like every day.
WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY PERFORMANCE RESUME?
You should include any training and experience relating to singing, acting or dancing, including your experience in any previous theatrical productions. If you are interested in a resume template, please email us for one and we'd be happy to send over an example!
WHAT ROLES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE SHOW?
We have posted a full character breakdown above!
WHEN WILL I HEAR ABOUT CASTING?
We will first schedule a round of callbacks to take place on Sunday, April 7th between 10:00am-5:00pm. You will receive an email by Saturday evening if you are asked to come in for callbacks. After callbacks, our production team will meet to make casting decisions and we will email all auditioners within one week.
CAN I STILL BE CAST IF I DO NOT GET A CALLBACK?
YES! We will only read for select roles at callbacks so if you do not receive a callback, please keep an eye out for the cast list!
WILL THE SHOW BE DOUBLE CAST?
Depending on casting requirements and the number of students who audition, we may have two separate casts (Cast A & Cast B). If this becomes the case, each cast would have two performances on performance weekend.
WHEN ARE REHEARSALS?
Rehearsals take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings between 5:00-9:00PM beginning June 4th. Performances run July 19th through July 21st.
I MAY HAVE A POSSIBLE CONFLICT DURING THE REHEARSAL PERIOD. WHEN SHOULD I BRING THIS TO SOMEONE'S ATTENTION?
We can approve some conflicts prior to casting. This means that once the cast list is posted, we will not accept any additional conflicts and will adhere to a strict participation and attendance policy (only ONE absence is allowed in the mainstage program). We have a short 6-week rehearsal period prior to tech week and we work at a very intensive pace so if you do have any potential conflicts (sports games, a weekly dance class, etc.), please make sure you write it down on your audition form.
WHO DO I CONTACT IF I AM RUNNING LATE TO MY AUDITION?
Please email our stage manager Sarah at firstname.lastname@example.org (or call our office number and leave a message) with as much of a heads up as possible if you are running late so she can adjust her check-in lineup!
WHO WILL BE IN THE ROOM AT MY AUDITION?
In attendance will be Spotlight Arts Executive Director Stephanie Rubino, Legally Blonde Director/Choreographer Eric Leiggi, and our resident accompanist Joanne Archibald and/or our visiting accompanist Richard F. Grasso.
Any additional questions can be addressed to email@example.com!
