Since the Spotlight Arts Winter Mainstage production moved to the fall this year, we are offering a unique training experience for our mainstage performers this winter! The Spotlight Arts mainstage program features two large-scale commercial productions each year that are directed by industry professionals and are by audition only. To uphold the integrity of our nationally recognized and award winning mainstage program, the new Mainstage Core Program is now a prerequisite for principal role callbacks and casting in our mainstage program. Here's more detailed info:
The Mainstage Core Program:
Spotlight Arts is thrilled to announce our new seasonal mainstage core program that is exclusively available to mainstage performers. This limited-space program is by audition only and available to performers who have performed in at least one of Spotlight Arts’ past mainstage productions or who have performed in an intensive workshop over the past year. This seasonal program this winter includes a series of workshops held over the course of 6 scheduled sessions that include audition technique and tips, self tapes, monologue work, vocal coaching, and dance call training, giving our mainstage students the opportunity to fine-tune and further enhance their triple-threat and auditioning skills so they are always ready for their next big audition and can unleash their true potential in the auditioning room, whether at Spotlight Arts or beyond! Core program participants are guaranteed a principal role callback at their next Spotlight Arts mainstage production audition for Summer 2020, and this program is now a prerequisite for consideration of principal roles in our mainstage program (the training program will be offered seasonally: once in the winter and once in late spring, but only needs to be completed once for principal role consideration in our mainstage productions and never expires!). The program concludes with a live streamed showcase performance. This program is perfect for young performers who are ready to take on larger performance roles, who want to challenge themselves with more advanced performance material, or who plan to audition for musical theatre programs at the collegiate level.
Mainstage Core Program Scheduling:
Mondays (virtual on Zoom): January 4th, 11th, 18th
Thursdays (in person at the Studio Around the Corner): January 7th, 14th, 21st
2 additional one-on-one coaching sessions* (to be scheduled after official acceptance into the program)
Showcase Performance on Saturday, January 23rd
How to Audition:
To apply, interested performers need to complete our google form application which includes submitting a self-tape video submission including 2 contrasting 32-bar cuts of musical theatre repertoire, and one 90-second (max.) contemporary monologue. This will also aid our creative team in choosing your rep that you will work on during the training program sessions. Apply through our google form here: https://forms.gle/o72XWo6BDv7cjVge8
Recommended Audition Material Selections:
Contrasting songs can be contrasting in tempo OR style! Consider contrasting a contemporary up-tempo song with a traditional ballad. It is recommended to choose your songs from book musicals (ie: Broadway shows, any musical that has a plot and specified characters). Monologue selections can be comedic or dramatic, and should be from a written play and not from a movie or TV show.
Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis, first come, first serve. The first round of acceptances will be announced on December 1st. Audition/Application Final Deadline: Monday, December 14th.
Limited need-based scholarships are available for this new core program. Please email us by December 1st to inquire about our scholarship application: firstname.lastname@example.org
